IBM Transformation Extender Advanced (ITXA) V9.0, previously known as IBM Standards Processing Engine (SPE), is the latest installment of the IBM Universal Transformation strategy for processing and transforming documents electronically. IBM ITXA is driven by, and based on, industry standards of the healthcare and supply chain industries.
Rebranding/Product Name Change
IBM intentionally rebranded and renamed its processing engine to show the relationship between IBM ITXA and IBM ITX. IBM ITXA is utilized with transforming incoming and outgoing documents. IBM Transformation Extender (ITX), previously Websphere Transformation Extender, is utilized to transform documents across internal IT infrastructures. However, IBM ITXA and IBM ITX work together harmoniously creating a complete document transformation solution.

REST APIs
Leveraging web services and cloud implementations, IBM ITXA integrates with Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs. REST APIs define a set of operations enabling developers to execute requests and receive responses through the HTTP protocol. Utilizing REST APIs permits you to control and configure IBM ITXA remotely and route data across the system's modular architecture.
Available REST APIs:
- Envelope - The ITXA node accepts one or multiple documents, translates documents based on trading partner information, and organizes documents based on trading partner information.
- Deenvelope - An EDIFACT or X12 document is inserted into ITXA, the document is de-enveloped through the ITXA API, the API breaks apart transactions, when applicable, and transactions are transformed generating an acknowledgment for each transaction.
- Transform - Utilizes a map to transform a message, information from the header is used to identify the standard, an appropriate map is selected, and the document is validated and transformed according to the map.
